FROM THE BOARD
Volunteer of the Month

The Volunteer of the Month for October is
Marlene Bottenfield.
Marlene has been a member of Unity in the Gold Country for about 8 years. Unity values were already embraced by Marlene before moving to Nevada City, as she had been a member of Auburn Unity before moving here. UGC feels like family!
Marlene has quietly been an integral part of our community volunteering over the years in many capacities. She has been a greeter at the front door, an usher, helps in the office regularly, keeps our web page updated and is one of our trained chaplains. She works with teams for fundraising event such as Unity café, silent auction crew, yard sales, and was the inspiration for Sunday morning Unity Community Farmer's Market.  She plants extra healthy vegetables on her farm just for the purpose of sharing the bounty with UGC and feels that this idea helps create community with other gardeners and the congregation. Marlene inspired our "from our home to yours" gardening!  She has organized and hosted the "Harvest Meal" for the last 5 years for the UGC community. Marlene has also been a facilitator stepping in where needed as speaker for Sunday morning and leading groups for ACOL and Jeddah Mali meditation groups.

In Marlene's words, "UGC has given me the opportunity to grow my spiritual path with like-minded people. I enjoy volunteering because I feel the universal flow of giving/receiving so clearly. It holds me in our oneness as community. I feel so blessed to be in Unity's community!"

With love and gratitude for YOU,
Crystal Arnold

THE TEACHINGS OF ADYASHANTI
With Lynn Marie and John Lumiere-Wins
This group will focus on the basic teaching of nondual spiritual teacher Adyashanti as presented in his book The Way of Liberation: A Practical Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment. This will be valuable preparation for Adyashanti's visit to UGC in September. These teachings are meant to be applied experientially in order to know from your own direct experience what is already and always available. We just need to know how to look!

The group will be led by Lynn Marie and John Lumiere-Wins who have been committed students of Adyashanti for over 20 years. In addition to reading the book, the group will be led in guided meditations, self- inquiry, and contemplation, as well as listening to meditations by Adyashanti.

"The Reality that these teachings are pointing toward is not hidden, or secret, or far away. You cannot earn it, deserve it, or figure it out. At this very moment, Reality and completeness are in plain sight." -Adyashanti

2nd and 4th Thursdays 7 pm - 8:30 pm
Next class is October 10th

DREAM WORKSHOP
Listening to the Guidance of Your Soul

"Dreams not interpreted are like letters that have not been opened."
The Talmud
In our modern society, dreams are often discounted as fantasy and unimportant. But throughout history, many cultures have considered the guidance inherent in dreams as essential to individual and collective growth in consciousness. It's now more important than ever for us to listen to what our dreams are telling us as the voice of our Souls. In this group, you will learn about your own dream symbology and how to begin deepening your awareness of your precious dreams. Dr. Nanci Shanderá is a master dream teacher so you will learn the fine art of dream interpretation through her example and guidance. You will begin to perceive your dream messages as surprising, amazing, and essential to your spiritual evolution.

"You were so inspirational and gave me some wonderful insights and also some good tools to use on my own. You are so informative.  I love this woman...she exudes love and peace!" Donna Finch
"Dr. Nanci's intuitive responses helped me "re-frame" my interpretations (often negative) of my dreams to a more positive and loving meaning. I felt validated and supported.CG

FROM THE BOARD
No Place Like Home

What a wonderful welcome back you all gave me last weekend. The heartfelt expression of appreciation for my being back home was very touching indeed. These are moments that really touch the heart and soul and won't be forgotten. I simply want to express to all of you my gratitude for the gift that the sabbatical was for me, and in turn will be for you in the coming months. I come back renewed and so exited to be starting into the Fall 9 week program. Richard Rohr's book, "The Universal Christ," is truly inspirational and outlines so clearly what Unity is all about. I hope you will sign up for a group and enter into this transformational process with your fellow congregants. If you don't, please do yourself the favor of buying the book and reading it by yourself. It is a phenomenal book that is changing the focus of spirituality in this country and beyond.

It was wonderful to see you all last weekend and I look forward to seeing more of you this Sunday. There is no place like home!

In gratitude,
Rev. Jerry
AN EVENING WITH ADYASHANTI . . .

potentially has room for walk-ins!  We have expanded our maximum allowed so if you choose to arrive as a walk-in we may be able to seat you. Friday 7pm.

One more thing - we are asking that we, the UGC folks, park in the parking lot kitty corner across the street in order to provide more parking for guests of Adyashanti and our Spiritual Center.  Mobility permitting, of course.
CHAIR TAKE-DOWN AFTER ADYASHANTI

A HUGE "Thank You" to Greg Plank and Marlene Bottenfield for bringing down and setting up all the chairs for the Adyashanti event tomorrow.  With just the three of us here to do this, we were still able to get it done quite quickly.  However, bringing down the chairs is one thing, taking them back up is another.  We are going to ask for help after the event tomorrow night to see if we can get volunteers to assist in taking the folding chairs back up.  If you are planning to attend tomorrows event, could you think of giving us a hand after the event?  Even if you were only able to help fold up the chairs, that would make things much quicker and easier for all of us!
POTLUCK SUNDAY THIS WEEK

The last Sunday of the month is now our Potluck Sunday.  Please bring your favorite food to share and join in the fun of talking and laughing with your friends.

AND THE AWARD GOES TO . . .

SACRED SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

Kristin Verducci is our Volunteer Coordinator.  If you're curious about any one of the volunteer opportunities please do contact Kristin for more information.  She's waiting for your call. :)

We are looking for volunteers for the following positions. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Kristin Verducci at 530-264-6258

** Audio visual person to run the camera to record the Sunday talk. This would be one Sunday each month.

**Team Members for Utah's Place Dinners.  Two or more people for each team.  As some of our volunteers have had to leave the teams, we need to fill those spots.   Each team serves dinner once every four months. Please feel free to sponsor a Utah's Place dinner by placing an additional donation in the wooden house on the back table.

** Habitat for Humanity.  We provide lunch for the work crew one Saturday a month.  We could use hands on help or just provide food or funds for food.
HEY UNITY PEEPS!

Note: we are currently passing the baton of FB page maintenance to me, Lezlie. I have found a pulse on our FB page and it is gaining strength as we speak!  Stay tuned!
